Our proprietary Lamellasomes™ technology provides the platform to develop novel, first-in-class medicinal and medical device products to treat the unmet or poorly met therapeutic needs of patients with certain respiratory, cardiovascular, immunological, dermatological, gynaecological, gastrointestinal diseases and conditions. |
Lamellasomes™ are the synthetic equivalents of vesicles found in nature, called lamellar bodies. Lamellar bodies are the essential lubricant and surfactant of the body’s tissues and organ systems. Lamellar bodies prevent tissues from sticking to each other and sticky secretions, like mucus, from clogging up the tubes, ducts and pores of the body. An example, of a condition in which Lamellasomes™ are of potential therapeutic benefit is in the life-threatening and life-shortening lung disease of cystic fibrosis where mucus clogs the lungs and other tissues to prevent their normal function. |

The lung function of patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are also compromised by an excess of mucus. Our lead Lamellasome candidate, LMS-611, is in preclinical development targeting the treatment of mucositis, dry mouth and respiratory diseases. |
